COLUMBUS, OH – In a move that is sending shockwaves of excitement through Buckeye Nation, Ohio State University (OSU) football icon Orlando Pace is set to make a historic return to Columbus. The university has officially announced that Pace, the legendary offensive tackle and a cornerstone of Buckeye excellence, will rejoin the program in 2025 as the new offensive coach.

Pace, a revered figure in Ohio State football history and a Hall of Famer, brings an unparalleled legacy of dominance, a deep understanding of offensive line play, and a passion for the Scarlet and Gray to his new role. His appointment is being celebrated as a monumental occasion, heralding a new era of offensive prowess for the Buckeyes.

As offensive coach, Pace will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing offensive strategies: Pace’s unparalleled expertise in offensive line play, particularly his mastery of pass protection and run blocking, will be crucial in designing and executing dynamic and effective game plans.
  • Coaching and mentoring offensive players: Drawing upon his own experiences as one of the greatest offensive linemen in college football history, Pace will provide invaluable guidance and mentorship to OSU’s offensive linemen, quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers. He will focus on technique, fundamentals, and the nuances of offensive execution.

  • Enhancing offensive line performance: Given his legendary status as an offensive tackle, Pace will dedicate significant attention to elevating the performance of the Buckeyes’ offensive line. He will instill a culture of toughness, discipline, and relentless effort, ensuring that the offensive line becomes a dominant force.
  • Collaborating with the coaching staff: Pace will work closely with Head Coach Ryan Day and the entire coaching staff to ensure seamless communication, coordination, and execution of the team’s offensive objectives.

Pace’s legacy at Ohio State is etched in granite. He was a dominant force for the Buckeyes from 1994 to 1996, redefining the offensive tackle position with his rare combination of size, athleticism, and technique. Known as “The Pancake Man” for his propensity for flattening opposing defenders, Pace was a two-time unanimous All-American, a two-time Lombardi Award winner, and the 1996 Outland Trophy winner. He finished fourth in the 1996 Heisman Trophy voting, an unprecedented achievement for an offensive lineman. Pace’s dominance paved the way for the success of Heisman Trophy-winning running back Eddie George and quarterback Bobby Hoying.

Following his extraordinary college career, Pace was selected with the first overall pick in the 1997 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. He went on to a Hall of Fame career in the NFL, anchoring the Rams’ “Greatest Show on Turf” offense and earning numerous accolades, including seven Pro Bowl selections and five All-Pro honors. His experience at the highest levels of the game will be an invaluable asset to the Buckeyes’ offense.
