MORGANTOWN, WV – In a remarkable act of compassion and community support, West Virginia Mountaineer football program head coach Rich Rodriguez has announced a $3.6 million investment to transform a house into a youth homeless shelter in Morgantown. This significant contribution aims to provide a safe haven and critical resources for vulnerable teenagers in the area, addressing a pressing need and solidifying Rodriguez’s commitment to the West Virginia community.

Rich Rodriguez, known for his dynamic coaching style and successful career leading various college football programs, has long been associated with West Virginia University. His return to the Mountaineer program has been met with enthusiasm, and this latest endeavor demonstrates his dedication to making a positive impact beyond the football field.

 

At a press conference held at the future site of the shelter, Rodriguez spoke about his motivation for undertaking this project.

“Morgantown and the state of West Virginia have always held a special place in my heart,” Rodriguez stated. “I’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by young people in this community, and I believe it’s our responsibility to step up and provide them with the support they need to build a better future. The $3.6 million investment will fund the complete renovation and transformation of the house into a state-of-the-art youth shelter. The facility will provide:

 

• Safe and Stable Housing: The shelter will offer a secure and nurturing environment for homeless youth, providing them with a place to sleep, meals, and basic necessities.
• Comprehensive Support Services: In addition to housing, the shelter will offer a range of support services, including counseling, case management, and mental health resources.
• Educational and Vocational Programs: Recognizing the importance of education and job skills, the shelter will provide access to tutoring, GED preparation, and vocational training programs.
