COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – One of A&M Consolidated’s most decorated soccer players is trading in the soccer cleats for football cleats when he heads to college, but he isn’t going far.
Colton Chmelar signed his letter of intent to play for Texas A&M as a preferred walk-on in December after committing last summer.
He’s played both soccer and football for the Tigers, and the Consol soccer team made it to the regional finals this postseason.
Chmelar also put a bow on his soccer career when he played in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches All-Star game this weekend which he was named MVP.
Mentally, I was not prepared to play another game,” Chmelar said. “I thought, alright, I’m done with soccer time to focus on football which I have been focusing on kicking and making sure I’m prepared for that, so whenever I got the message that I made the All Star team I was like ‘oh sweet one more soccer game’ and actually it was pretty cool.”
Chmelar was perfect on PATs, going 51-for-51 in his junior year. His longest field goal in a game is 51 yards.
The Consol senior started playing soccer when he was three years old and picked up football in 7th grade.
As high school comes to a close, Chmelar said it’s time to focus on honing his kicking craft.
I’m jittery and itchy to start doing stuff, but it’s around the corner,” Chmelar said. “It’s next week I move in, ready to start the grind, so it’s going to be fun, but I’m not nervous, I’m just more excited and passionate about what I’m going to get to do.. the experience I’m going to get to have, and memories I’m going to get to make.”
Chmelar will continue making memories since he’s moving in with his high school teammate and quarterback, Will Hargett.
