CHARLOTTE, NC – In a landmark moment for the Carolina Panthers franchise, two of its most iconic players, Jordan Gross and Steve Smith Sr., have announced a multi-million dollar endowment to support youth development initiatives tied to the team. Jordan Gross, a stalwart offensive tackle, and Steve Smith Sr., a dynamic wide receiver, both left indelible marks on the Carolina Panthers and the NFL. Their on-field achievements, combined with their off-field leadership and community involvement, have solidified their places among the franchise’s all-time greats. This joint endowment further cements their legacy.

“Carolina holds a special place in our hearts,” Gross said during a press conference at Bank of America Stadium. “We both grew up here, in a way, playing in front of these amazing fans. We wanted to give back to the community that has supported us throughout our careers and help provide opportunities for young people to achieve their dreams.”

 

Smith echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the importance of investing in the next generation. “Football taught me so much about hard work, dedication, and perseverance,” Smith added. “With this endowment, we aim to provide young athletes with the resources and support they need to succeed, not just in sports, but in life.”

The endowment, which will be managed through the Carolina Panthers Foundation, will focus on several key areas:

Gross was drafted by the Panthers in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft and spent his entire 11-year career with the team. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a First-Team All-Pro in 2008. Gross was a cornerstone of the Panthers’ offensive line, known for his reliability, toughness, and leadership. He is a member of the Panthers Hall of Honor.

Smith played 13 seasons for the Panthers (2001-2013) and is the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. A five-time Pro Bowl selection and a three-time All-Pro, Smith was known for his electrifying play, competitive fire, and clutch performances. He also played for the Baltimore Ravens before retiring. Smith is also a member of the Panthers Hall of Honor and was known for his community work throughout his playing career.
