HBO Max has announced plans to produce an in-depth documentary series centered around the Chicago Blackhawks, one of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) most storied and beloved franchises.

In a move that is set to thrill hockey fans and documentary enthusiasts alike, HBO Max has announced plans to produce an in-depth documentary series centered around the Chicago Blackhawks, one of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) most storied and beloved franchises.
The as-yet-untitled documentary series, which is currently in production, promises to deliver a comprehensive and unflinching look at the Blackhawks’ rich history, their struggles in recent years, and their ongoing efforts to rebuild and reclaim their status as one of the NHL’s elite teams.
According to sources close to the project, the documentary series will feature exclusive interviews with current and former Blackhawks players, coaches, and executives, as well as behind-the-scenes access to the team’s training facilities, locker rooms, and front office operations.
The series will also delve into the Blackhawks’ complicated and sometimes contentious history, including their struggles with racism and diversity, their handling of the Kyle Beach sexual assault scandal, and their efforts to rebuild and rebrand the franchise in the wake of these controversies.
“We are thrilled to be working with HBO Max on this documentary series,” said Blackhawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz. “We believe that our team’s story, with all its triumphs and tribulations, is one that will resonate with hockey fans and non-hockey fans alike, and we are excited to share it with the world.”
The documentary series is being produced by HBO Max in association with the Blackhawks and NHL Original Productions. The series is expected to premiere on HBO Max later this year, although an exact release date has not yet been announced.
A Legacy of Excellence
The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the NHL’s “Original Six” teams, and their legacy of excellence dates back to the 1920s. The team has won six Stanley Cup championships, most recently in 2015, and has produced some of the greatest players in NHL history, including Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, and Patrick Kane.
However, in recent years, the Blackhawks have struggled to maintain their competitive edge, and the team has been embroiled in several high-profile controversies, including the Kyle Beach scandal, which led to the resignation of longtime general manager Stan Bowman and the departure of head coach Joel Quenneville.

Rebuilding and Rebranding
Despite these challenges, the Blackhawks are committed to rebuilding and rebranding their franchise, and the documentary series will provide a unique and intimate look at this process.
“We are excited to share our story with the world,” said Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson. “We believe that our team’s history, our struggles, and our triumphs are all part of a larger narrative that will resonate with audiences everywhere.”
The documentary series is expected to be a must-watch for hockey fans and documentary enthusiasts alike, and will provide a unique and unflinching look at one of the NHL’s most beloved and beleaguered franchises.
