Gamecocks’ Spring Roster Shake-Up: Who’s In, Who’s Out, and What’s Next?”

As the dust settles on the South Carolina Gamecocks’ 2024 football season, a clearer picture of the 2025 roster emerges. Between player departures, incoming recruits, and transfer portal additions, Head Coach Shane Beamer is retooling his squad to prepare for spring practices.

Roster Departures

The Gamecocks bid farewell to a significant portion of their roster this offseason, including seniors, transfer portal exits, and early declarations for the NFL draft. Notable departures include:

Edge Kyle Kennard, DT T.J. Sanders, and S Nick Emmanwori leaving early for the NFL.

Key seniors like DT Tonka Hemingway, LB Demetrius Knight, RB Rocket Sanders, and OL Torricelli Simpkins moving on.

Transfers such as LB Bangally Kamara (Kansas) and WR Tyshawn Russell (Syracuse).

While many departures were expected, some transfers, like QB Robby Ashford, who started in the win against Akron, and WR Payton Mangrum, saw limited impact during their time with the team.

Coaching Changes

The Gamecocks also experienced a shake-up on the sidelines. Offensive Coordinator Dowell Loggains departed to take the head coaching role at Appalachian State. In response, Mike Shula has been promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.

New Additions and Early Enrollees

This offseason’s recruiting class focused on filling gaps, particularly at wide receiver, linebacker, and kicker. The 2025 class includes several promising talents:

Early enrollees like QB Cutter Woods, WR Malik Clark, and DL Caleb Williams are already making their presence felt after participating in bowl practices.

Transfers such as Edge Anthony Addison (Sumter) and DL Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy (Texas A&M) aim to bring immediate impact.

With seven freshmen enrolling early, including WR Jayden Sellers, brother of former Gamecock LaNorris Sellers, and key transfers ready to step in, the Gamecocks’ spring practices will highlight a blend of youth and experience.
